Client Research Advocate

Emilie Evans is a passionate and award-winning preservation and graphic design professional who’s enjoyed an exciting career working in Detroit and other post-industrial legacy cities developing innovative projects, using data to help cities guide strategic reinvestment decisions, and meaningfully engaging with local stakeholders to accomplish impactful programs. This work inspired her to co-found Brick + Beam Detroit in 2015, a home repair organization that connects building rehabbers and property owners with skills-building classes, tradespeople, DIY resources, and more. Also in 2015, the National Trust for Historic Preservation honored her with an American Express Aspire Award.

Emilie has worked as both a preservation professional and graphic designer for nonprofits, consulting firms, and as a lobbyist for preservation-friendly policies at the federal level. She holds a BA in Visual Media from American University as well as masters’ degrees in both Historic Preservation and Urban Planning from Columbia University, where she also taught. Emilie serves as an Advisor to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, loves tackling home repair projects, manages a house full of animals and plants, and is raising two little boys with her husband in Arlington.
