Location: GSA Region 3 - Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia
MTFA is under contract with the General Services Administration to address exterior envelopes and roofing in various locations in Region 3. Projects have included: the Slemp Federal Building in Big Stone Gap, Virginia; the Baltimore Custom House in Baltimore, Maryland; and the Lewis J. Powell Jr. Courthouse in Richmond, Virginia.
A project example from this IDIQ is: The historic Lewis J. Powell Jr. Courthouse Building was originally constructed in 1855-1858. MTFA was commissioned for two restoration projects. The first project involved a site survey, analysis and design for the restoration of the high slope roofs. The second project involves the survey, analysis and design for the restoration of the facade as well as the remaining roofs.
The building has several different roof types including steep and low slope roofs. The tile roof consists of two-piece (pan and cover) straight barrel mission tiles nailed to nailing strips with a felt underlayment over a wood plank sheathing applied over a concrete deck. The mission tiles were installed in 1965. MTFA is currently in the schematic design phase of the roof and facade restorations.
