Location: Arlington, Va.
Project type: mixed-use commercial office and retail
The Pentagon Center tower is 20 stories high and comprised of more than 500,000 square feet of office space and a ground floor entry to the adjacent retail mall. Marking the Metro entry for the surrounding area, the building design is the architectural centerpiece of a rezoning and redevelopment challenge.
Designed to achieve a LEED Silver or better rating, it is the signature anchor to a 16-acre master plan for a retail, office and residential complex being redeveloped by Kimco.
The design transforms industrial warehouses from undistinguished retail boxes into a pedestrian friendly, transit oriented and vibrant community. The architecture is comprised of a well proportioned steel and glass skin on three sides with curved vertical curtain wall to mark the entry corner. This curtain wall rises from the main entry to a marquis diamond shaped penthouse that meets the sky. The ambitious up-zoning was accomplished in record time under a unanimous vote by the Arlington County Zoning Board.
