Research and Design

Research and design competitions are ways for us to explore design and building technology without constraints. We delve into issues of cultural landscapes, environmental sustainability and community and social expression. Examples include the following:

MTFA Architecture maintains collaborative relationships with universities in the region and has used competitions as a way to connect to research. The office has been actively involved in the Solar Decathlon Competition, National Ideas Competition for the Grounds of the Washington Monument, National Building Museum's Annual Inter-School Competition and Virginia Society AIA's Prize for Design Research.
